The Society for News Design is pleased to announce its 15th annual Best of Digital Design competition. The official entry site is now receiving entries. Excellence in digital design has proven to be a moving target: it’s certainly more than a publication’s use of typography, illustrations and graphics. This competition has pushed us all to think about design in different ways – from a site’s speed to its usability to its use of multimedia in stories.
We have specific subcategories this year for the Refugee Crisis, the Summer Olympic Games and the U.S. Elections.
And new categories this year include:
Motion graphics and social media graphics – Publications from across the news spectrum have really been doing some incredible visual storytelling with their motion graphics this year.
Social media strategy – We’re looking at how your publication has created a visual style or specific way you are using the various social media platforms.
Products and experimental design – There have been a variety of entries from year’s past that didn’t feel like there was really a category for it – whether that was spotlighting a publication’s internal tools, a particularly innovative user interface design or something embracing new technologies like wearables or bots.
You can witness this competition’s evolution at our new archive of all the previous winners since we converted the competition to an annual one in 2010. The site includes full results & links, medal comments, winning portfolios and more.
We look forward to seeing your work — best of luck in this year’s competition!
