About the competition
The annual Best of Newspaper Design Creative Competition started in 1979, and the contest was opened to magazines in 2009 as the name changed to Best of News Design. Since 2002, SND has invited entries from all news sites published worldwide (formerly known as the SNDies) to recognize skill, innovation, and high-quality digital journalism. In 2025, the competition opened up to include student and non-editorial organizations that produce non-editorial content. Including but not limited to any company, agency, or individual who played a role in the work’s creation, production, distribution, or placement. Professionals and students are eligible to enter. This wide eligibility ensures that a variety of voices and perspectives can be represented.

Who can enter?
The Creative Competition accepts work from all news organizations and student publications. Product teams at news organizations and non-editorial publications are eligible to submit work in certain categories. You do not need to be a member of SND to participate in the competition. However, members receive a discount on entries. Becoming an SND member for just $55 allows you to join a community of peers for networking opportunities, and your membership also makes it possible for us to continue initiatives that celebrate and support our industry.
