Event: SND2020 Virtual Conference
Date: September 28, 2020
Sensors, projections, internet-connected objects and wearables are all part of a suite of technologies that promise to change the way we interact with news and information. By merging the real and digital worlds, tangible user interfaces present new opportunities for journalists to tell stories and readers to interact with them. At The University of Queensland, Australia, we have begun exploring the possibilities. We have developed a card-based workshop and prototyped a tangible story about energy futures. In this session we’ll discuss our motivations, methods and preliminary designs.
SESSION TAKEAWAYS
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Start thinking about how you can design your next story for a building, bus stop or kitchen.
- Wonder whether journalists should design stories for public action
- Question whether news should be speculative.
WHO SHOULD WATCH THIS SESSION
Designers and editors for digital and print; those working in R&D; anyone interested in design research; reporters looking for alternative ways to tell stories.
