Early in 2020, SND was gearing up for our Annual Workshop & Convention in Washington, DC. Annual Workshop is an exciting time; gathering colleagues from around the world, sharing tips and tools, being inspired by the work of so many within the SND community, and announcing the winners of our 41st Creative Competition.

That March everything changed.

We weren’t able to announce live in front of our community that The Washington Post was named World’s Best-Designed Digital News Experience. We weren’t able to shake hands with our friends who just won one of the top honors in our industry. We weren’t able to toast them, take photos with them and enjoy their moment.

Now, almost 30 months later, we will. SND will gather to celebrate The Washington Post, and many other World’s Best winners on Oct 21, 2022, in Washington DC at our awards dinner, SND Honors

A limited number of tickets are still available, if you would like to join us in celebrating our SND winners, the registration closes Oct, 6, 2022.

Let’s take a look back at what the Best of Digital News Design competition judges had to say about The Washington Post.

_____

“The newsroom’s approach to visual storytelling is not trapped inside the formats imposed upon our industry by huge platforms but stretches design boundaries and uses new technologies to tell compelling, important stories,” wrote the judges in the digital competition.

The judges recognized excellence across The Washington Post, but wanted to especially highlight a few teams and initiatives: The Lily, visual storytelling, and interactive data.

“The Lily’s design and visuals are vibrant and lively. The Post’s interactive data projects represent ambition, long-term commitments to serving the public with critical data on critical, often difficult times.”
