This weekend, more than 40 news design leaders are digging in on two focused days of ideation and prototyping for #SNDMakes, Boston. We will be addressing the question, “How might we improve the content-creation experience?”
Throughout the event, we will use a human-centered design process to identify design needs and invent solutions. This facilitated, interactive workshop is for designers, developers, product managers, journalists and students who create digital news content.
For those of you joining us at Upstatement, or for those following along from a distance, here is the agenda for day one of #SNDMakes.
9a: Light breakfast, welcome and introductions
10a: Set goals, define parameters, initial ideation and team formation
Noon: Lunch, beer share and lightning talks
1p: Targeted brainstorming exercises, define MVP
4p: Teams define design challenges, set work plans

Throughout the weekend, teams will be using Hackdash to document the ideation and brainstorming phases of addressing our design question. You can also follow individual updates from team members using the hashtag on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.

Great spot for a coffee or a small pastry bite. We’ll have their coffee on tap for at least Day 1.

Good Asian gastro pub. Expensive cocktails, but tasty food.
Tavern Road
Great cocktails, great food.
Flour Bakery
Awesome baked goods, sandwiches, coffee, etc.

Nice little mod italian place with great dinner and brunch options.
Barking Crab
Waterfront seafood joint, lobstah rolls and fried stuff.
Legal Harborside
Good seafoods and straighforward beers and stuff. Kinda touristy.

Legal seafood’s weirder side. Still kind of corporate.
Harpoon Brewery
The Harpoon HQ with a sweet beer garden and *great* pretzels. Brewery tours on Fridays.
