Society for News Design (SND) is making major changes to the annual Best of News Design Creative Competition!
The Society will merge the print, digital and student competitions into a single competition starting next year. The competition will be as good as it has ever been, and also easier to understand and enter.
We will streamline judging, categories and award types to better cover all platforms and types of visual journalism and storytelling. There will be some categories that will be platform-specific, and judges will continue to be assigned to critique work based on their expertise. We will also be introducing categories for non-editorial work.
Greg Mees will oversee this transition, and he has created four working groups to help with this monumental task. If you’re interested in helping with this transformation, please email our Executive Director LeeAnn ; we would love to have your ideas and your help!
We hope to return to Minneapolis for judging next year. The Star Tribune did a wonderful job hosting the print and digital competitions this year. We are aiming for a mid- to late-April judging next year and hope to have the location and dates finalized soon.
We will also add a 1-day conference after judging ends. SND provides immense value in our digital spaces, but nothing matches our ability to connect in-person to network and learn.
Stay tuned and follow our socials for updates about the competition changes and the conference. Please reach out with any ideas or thoughts you have about how to make the competition the best it can be.
