Judges have awarded the Best of Digital Design competition’s third silver medal to The New York Times for its “What’s the Right Call on Fourth Down? Ask this Robot.” web app in the features, data project category. It is the second silver medal awarded to the Times.

“It’s simple. It’s easy. The fact that it’s posting it on Twitter as the game is going on … sports fans love this sort of stuff. Here’s something that gives you a little more concrete reason for why to go for it or not … It was a really smart use of technology … It’s a very deep data set that’s been simplified and made very usable. I don’t have examples of this kind of work being executed before.”
