Katie Myrick
News Designer, The Washington Post
Katie is a news designer at The Washington Post and editor of snd.org. After graduating from Indiana University, she started working the late sports shifts at the Post, eventually making it to the news desk. She has since focused on A1 and project management. She previously interned at the Arizona Republic, St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Tampa Bay Times, and was a 2009 Poynter Fellow.
Douglas Okasaki
Senior Designer, Gulf News
Douglas is Society for News Design regional director for Middle East and Africa and senior designer in Gulf News. Originally from Brazil where previous worked in the biggest Folha de S. Paulo and O Globo (Rio de Janeiro). In Tokyo he worked in the International Press newspaper. Representing SND he has been speaker in conference and seminar in Egypt, Jordan, Johannesburg, India and Dubai. SND award winner for eight consecutive years, he received award for work published in Brazil, Japan and first SND award in Middle East. In 2013 he organized the first SND Middle East Conference in Dubai and in 2008 with partnership UN and WAN (World Association Newspaper) the workshop for iraq newspaper designer in Jordan. Started in 2011, he organized SND Middle East award winner exhibition in Dubai and India.
Will Alford
Manager/New Products and Business Development, Cox Media Group
Will manages new products and business development for Cox Media Group’s Digital & Strategy team and is acting editor for Rare, a startup he helped launch in 2013. Before this, he was design director for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where he worked for 15 years. He graduated from the University of Florida and also worked at newspapers in Florida and Arizona.
Rich Boudet
Sunday Sports Editor, The Seattle Times
Rich is Sunday Sports Editor at The Seattle Times, where he has worked for the past eight years. As the paper’s primary sports designer, he produces special projects with both an eye for editing and design. Boudet has won multiple SND awards and was twice named the Pacific Northwest’s top newspaper designer by SPJ. He was the founder and co-author of the popular industry blog SportsDesigner.com, which continues today on social media.
David Kordalski
Visual Editor, The Plain Dealer
David is the Visual Editor of The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer. He guided the paper’s 2001, 2009 and 2013 redesigns. In 30 years as a visual journalist, he’s worked at large-, midsize- and small-circulation dailies, as well as a weekly or two. He’s currently president of SND.

Tricia Reinhold
Creative Director, Gannett Phoenix Design Studio
Tricia is the creative director for Gannett’s Phoenix Design Studio, overseeing the design and presentation for the ten west group papers. She was previously the features design director for the Arizona Republic. She has also been a magazine designer for a number of local magazines, daily metro features designer at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and an art director of two alternative weeklies, In Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh City Paper.
Domenic Macri
Art Director, Report on Business magazine, The Globe and Mail
Domenic is the Art Director at Report on Business magazine for The Globe and Mail. After earning his degree at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Macri began his career at Toronto Life Fashion. He then moved to the Globe and Mail to work on Report on Business, leaving briefly for stints at Flare and What’s Cooking magazines, and freelancing for GUSTO!, a Globe quarterly of food and recipes. In the 10 years he has worked with Report on Business, Macri has overseen several redesigns of the magazine, and has won honors from the Art Directors Club of Canada and the National Magazine Awards.
Jason Benavides
Features Designer, The Charlotte Observer
Jason studied graphic design, illustration and typography at The University of Kansas and has since then gone on to be an award winning designer and illustrator for The Charlotte Observer and The News & Observer of Raleigh. Originally a jack-of-all-trades, he has currently settled into a role as features designer for the McClatchy Publishing Center which is responsible for Charlotte, Raleigh and Rock Hill.
Elizabeth Burr
Senior Art Director, San Francisco Chronicle
Elizabeth is senior art director of the San Francisco Chronicle. She joined the Chronicle in 1997 as a news and feature designer. Aside from leading the design team, her designs have been featured in the Chronicle’s weekly broadsheet magazine, Style. Her work has been recognized by several design organizations and has won multiple SND awards.
Heather Hopp-Bruce
Op-Ed Design Supervisor, The Boston Globe
Heather Hopp-Bruce is the op-ed design supervisor at the Boston Globe, a member of the Globe editorial board, and a frequent contributor to boston.com. Previously, she has been Assistant News Editor/Sports at Newsday, lead sports designer at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Metro design editor at the San Francisco Chronicle, columnist at the Santa Cruz Sentinel, and news graphics editor at the Missoulian in Missoula, Mont. She also runs a parenting humor blog at thebabysucks.com and does freelance book design.

Kristin Lenz
Art Director, Inc. magazine
Kristin designed her way around the country working at The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, The Hartford Courant, The Orange County Register and others. Her design and illustration work has been honored by the Society of News Design and Print magazine.
Holly Braford
Freelance Designer and Illustrator, New York
Holly Braford recently left the Minneapolis Star Tribune, where she was art director of Vita.mn. She has worked for the St. Petersburg Times (now Tampa Bay Times), where she launched and art directed tb-two*, a magazine aimed at high school students. Holly currently has one more SND award than her husband.
Greg Branson
Assistant Managing Editor/Presentation and Innovation, The Kansas City Star
Greg is the AME/Presentation and Innovation at The Kansas City Star. Previously, he was editor and publisher of 3 weekly newspapers in rural Kansas, worked at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis and at the Springfield (Mo.) News-Leader. He has won a few awards here and there, including some from SND and a Malofiej award.
Nick Hallam
Senior Art Director, The Wall Street Journal
Nick is Senior Art Director at The Wall Street Journal. He has previously held design positions at American Media and The New York Daily News. Prior to arriving in the U.S. in 2005, he served at The Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, The Times and The Sunday Times in London.
Jørgen Høg
Editor in Chief, Søfart
Jørgen is the editor in chief of Søfart, a maritime magazine where he has overseen a strong digital push and helped introduce the annual targeted specialty supplement Built. After earning a degree in analytical journalism at the University of Southern Denmark, he served at several publications including Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten and magazine development at Datagraf Communications. Høg has been heavily involved with SND Scandinavia, and served as editor of SNDS Magazine for several years.

Freelance Illustrator, Toronto, ON, Canada
Kagan is a freelance illustrator living in Toronto and represented by Jed Root Inc. in New York. Past clients have included the National Post, The Globe and Mail, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and The National. He teaches courses on Infographics, figure drawing and editorial illustration at Sheridan College.
Stephen Case
Art Director, South China Morning Post
Stephen is currently the art director at the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. It’s a small but productive, multi-award winning art department. Originating from Australia, he’s been living in Hong Kong for the past seven years. He was previously art director at The Australian newspaper and has worked at a number of publications as an illustrator, designer and graphic designer.
Jennifer Daniel
Graphics Editor, The New York Times
Jennifer is a visual journalist at the New York Times. In addition to her work as the graphics director at Bloomberg Businessweek her illustrations have been commissioned by a diverse group of publications ranging from The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and Wired. Jennifer has also been recognized by many fancy design, illustration, and journalism awards but yet to win that coveted SND medal.
Rose Engelland
Photo Editor, The Chronicle of Higher Education
Rose is the Photo Editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education. She provides visual direction in digital and print for photography and video. Her work for the magazine section of The Chronicle has been recognized by SND. She has recently been working on long form multimedia narratives for chronicle.com.

Deputy Design Director/Features, The Los Angeles Times
Paul is a deputy design director for features at the Los Angeles Times. His work has been recognized by SND, Communication Arts, Print and the Society of Publication Designers.

Ying Wu
Assistant Professor/Design Editor, University of Missouri, School of Journalism/Columbia Missourian
Ying Wu, is an assistant professor at University of Missouri’s Journalism school and design editor at Columbia Missourian. In her 8 years of editorial design, she has worked at Beijing News and Boston Globe. She is an award-winning designer of SND30, and she has served as a judge for the SND34 digital design contest.
Frank Mina
Depute Managing Editor/Presentation, San Francisco Chronicle
Since joining the paper in 1997, he has been recognized by SND and other organizations for his outstanding work as a designer. He was part of the design team that launched the paper’s award-winning redesign and subsequently redesigned all of Hearst Corp. large daily newspapers. In 2013, Frank helped launch The Chronicle’s subscriber site, sfchronicle.com.

Peter Nguyen
Design Director, U-T San Diego
Peter Nguyen is design director at U-T San Diego and is former features art director at The Orange County Register. A writer and illustrator, he has been honored for his work by SND and Print magazine.
Fabián Cárdenas
Art Director, El Heraldo
Fabián Cárdenas is a designer from Bogota, Colombia. He graduated from the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in Spain with a Masters in Editorial Design. For 14 years Cárdenas worked at Casa Editorial El Tiempo, where he assisted with the redesign of El Tiempo and the economic journal Portafolio. He has served as the art director for El Heraldo de Barranquilla since 2008. He has received several SND awards during his career.
Lotta Ek
Art Director, Dagens Nyheter
Lotta Ek is the art director at Dagens Nyheter, Sweden’s largest morning paper. Previously she worked in a design studio. She has been involved in several redesigns, both at Dagens Nyheter and other newspapers and magazines. The latest was the redesign that gave Dagens Nyheter it’s present design and that was named both World’s best designed and Scandinavia’s best designed by the Society for News Design.
Naedine Hazell
Special Projects and Publications Editor, the Hartford Courant, Hartford Magazine, New Haven Living magazine
Naedine Hazell began her career, like many, working on her college newspaper and was a news clerk at The (Bergen) Record, N.J. while in college. Fast forward 25 years and she was editor-in-chief of the Hartford Courant. In between, Hazell interned at The Economist, was a reporter for five years in New York, an editor at the Stamford Advocate and then held various jobs at The Courant over 20 years including city editor, travel editor, asst. managing editor for features and business, online editor and page-one editor. In most of those jobs she worked closely with many of journalism’s award-winning photographers and designers.
Gayle Grin
Managing Editor/Design and Graphics; PostMedia Design Consultant, National Post
Gayle is a past president of SND and a winner of the SND Lifetime Achievement Award. Before joining the Post, Gayle worked as features design editor at the Montreal Gazette. While SND president, she was a champion of the forming of the Chinese chapter of SND, now SND’s fastest-growing region.
