The world continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic and, like many organizations, the Society for News Design has had to be somewhat fluid with plans to announce the winners for our competitions.
Best of News Design Creative Competition Database
The Society for News Design’s Best of News Design Creative Competition, held earlier this year, is a juried competition recognizing journalistic excellence in storytelling, graphics, illustration, photography and news design.
This year the competition awarded 13 gold medals, 61 silver medals, two judges’ special recognition, and 920 awards of excellence after three days of judging at the Coliseum in St. Petersburg.
As SND is working to update various systems and process through an iterative agile process, this year’s print competition database will be released through AirTable.
Best of Digital Design Competition
Earlier this year, SND released the results list for the Best of Digital Design Competition. The 14 judges from across the United States and around the globe reviewed a record 1,315 entries during three days of judging Georgetown’s School of Continuing Studies campus in Washington, D.C. More than 100 organizations from 26 countries entered the competition.
This is the seventh year of the digital portion of the competition, which uniquely honors journalistic, visual and technical excellence for work produced in 2019.
The results list can be viewed by category or by organization.
World’s Best Winners
In a normal time, the finalists and winners of the World’s Best Award would have been announced, celebrated and honored at our annual conference and workshop, held in the spring. As previously announced, this year’s workshop is currently postponed until a later date.
We have had to become flexible in our plans and approach for announcing the winners of this award as we had previously hoped to be able to hold our workshop in the early summer. In the coming days, we will post and announce the winners of the World’s Best for both digital and print online. We hope to celebrate the finalists and winners at our workshop when we are able to reschedule.
