Vision for SND
Essentially every graphics or design person knows of SND, but the organization is really only known as one that gives out awards. But the *Society* for News Design could do so much more with that name recognition. My vision is to help SND become a better version of itself. I’d like to survey members about what services and features would be of value to them, and get insight from existing board members about what they think SND could become. Then I want to help execute that vision. All the way back in college I volunteered to be a manager for my dorm, organizing events and designing merch, because I wanted to make it a better place to live. I feel the same way about SND — I want to make it the best design society out there so that everyone in the community can have better resources.
About Sara
Sara is a graphics editor in the Opinion section at the New York Times, where she works with guest essayists to craft visually driven arguments (whether she agrees with them or not). She won an SND Bronze award last year for the story she wrote and produced on pregnancy-associated homicides, and has master’s degrees in science journalism from New York University and in visual storytelling from the University of Girona. Before joining the Times, she was an editor at Popular Science, where she ran the infographics section of the magazine. She has retained a deep and abiding love for print.
