The SND Print Competition Committee has named Jon Wile of American City Business Journals as the Best of News Design 40th Edition competition coordinator. Wile is a veteran of the organization and organized the highly successful spring workshop in Charlotte in 2017.
Wile has years of dedication to the competition and has been instrumental in helping ensure that the competition’s move to St. Petersburg, Fla., has been seamless.
About Jon:
Jon Wile is VP/Content at American City Business Journals, overseeing editorial operations for 40 business journals across the country. Previously, Wile served as Creative Director at ACBJ and redesigned all 40 papers in tandem with Mario Garcia. He also oversaw UX and Product design, as well as the company’s editorial research operations.
Before joining ACBJ in 2012, Wile worked in a variety of design and leadership roles at The Washington Post for seven years. He’s also worked at The Plain Dealer and Detroit Free Press. He’s a graduate of Kent State University, with a degree in newspaper journalism.
Wile has served the Society in numerous roles, including multiple positions on the SND board and host of the 2017 annual workshop in Charlotte. He’s been a judge twice at the annual design competition, as well as a facilitator and team captain.
When not sitting at his desk in Charlotte, N.C., or flying around the U.S., Wile spends time with his wife, Kristen, who is editor at Charlotte city magazine. They share a love of journalism, travel, rescue animals, food and cocktails. The couple has two pit bulls, Rosie and Titan, as well as a pet tortoise, Desmond.
SND40 will be held in late winter 2019 in St. Petersburg.
