The site maintenance issues that have plagued us have now been resolved, and so we’ve extended the deadline for the “Best of Digital Design” competition yet again — it’s now Monday evening at 11:50 p.m. EST.
Thanks for your patience and understanding!
We are now accepting entries for the 4th annual Best of Digital Design Competition, highlighting the best digital stories, websites, mobile and tablet apps of 2013.
Digital design took huge leaps forward this year after 2012’s multiple-winning entry “Snowfall” by the New York Times. In 2012 editors, reporters, designers and developers saw how true multimedia integration could enhance stories and did their best to push those ideas and concepts forward.
In 2013 we saw data journalism reach new peaks, while resources like Github increased collaboration and helped us produce stronger open-source news products.
We’re looking forward to judging all of the incredible work done over the last year and combing through it to find the very best.
Our categories will mostly remain the same, however we’ve added a special category for coverage of the death of Nelson Mandela. You may remember in a previous announcement we intended to include a special category for 2014 Olympics coverage, however, the competition committee has reconsidered that decision.
The scope of work to be considered in the digital competition is the January – December 2013 calendar year.
The deadline for entries is Friday, February 28, 2014 at 11:59 pm ET. You can start submitting your entries on the SND digital competition website. Judging will take place in Indianapolis on March 20-23 and results will be announced throughout the weekend.
Good luck!
Ryan Sparrow
Co-Director of SND’s Best of Digital Design competition.
