The Society for News Design (SND) is holding elections soon for the following positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and four (4) Board of Directors seats.
The Society for News Design is evolving — and we need you to help lead the way. In 2025, members will elect 8 Board members (4 Officers and 4 Directors) to shape our future.
Why serve on the Board?
Board members guide SND’s strategic direction and strengthen our impact across the media and design industries. Over the next term, the Board will focus on:
- Evolving and modernizing the Society
- Harnessing AI and visual storytelling
- Growing membership and outreach (especially internationally)
- Re-establishing SND as a go-to destination for expertise, trends, and inspiration
- Expanding training, professional credentials, and certifications
- Growing and evolving the Creative Competition
Additional opportunities include expanding our membership pool, archiving and highlighting annual competition results, enhancing digital platforms, and fostering day-to-day member engagement.

There are countless ways to get involved — SND runs on volunteers, and we’re always looking for collaborators across journalism, design, technology, and international connections.

About SND’s Board of Directors
The Board of Directors consists of seven (12) members. Four (4) of these are the Officers of the Board-President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Eight members are Directors serving 2-year terms each.
As you consider your interest and potential positive impact on the new board, there are many strategic initiatives in progress that new Board of Directors members will be involved in. Over the next term, the Board will continue building on a slate of topics and goals to strengthen and grow the Society, and improve visual storytelling across our industry.
Other areas of opportunity for future board members: expanding our membership pool, plotting a course for reporting/celebrating/highlighting/archiving annual results, growing our digital platforms, and increasing our day-to-day engagement. And, of course, the Board also is excited to hear fresh ideas and perspectives from newly-elected members.
Time commitment: Directors spend an average of 2 to 5 hours a week dedicated to SND, depending on the projects you choose to take on. A minimum of 6 full board meetings, remote. Meetings general run 2-3 hours.

- September 3 – Nominations open for eligible members
- September 17 – Candidate applications due
- September 18 – Candidate bios and position statements published on snd.org
- September 26 – Voting opens
- October 3 – Voting closes
- October 6 – Results announced
- October 14 – New board members join the current board for onboarding.
- January 1, 2026 – Official board terms begin.
