SND’s annual workshops are run by an army of volunteers, and one of the perks of the job is the opportunity to take over the society’s social media accounts, along with the SND.org blog, to document the action.
At the 2019 workshop in Chicago, the volunteer team organized its observations in SND’s Slack workspace, creating a new channel called #newsroom. Working in shifts over the workshop’s three days, about 30 volunteers posted material, which they went on to edit into tweets, Instagram stories and blog posts for those following SND Chicago from afar.
In hindsight, that #newsroom channel became a fairly comprehensive chronicle of the workshop, so we wanted to share it with SND members in its raw form. From its fledgling beginnings on the morning of Thursday, April 4, to Yuri Victor’s closing presentation on Saturday, April 6, the feed offers something from every session and event the workshop had to offer.
So hop onto Slack, jump to the beginning of the #newsroom feed, and revisit SND Chicago in chronological order. Along the way, appreciate the work of more than two dozen volunteers — most of whom had just met one another — working together to capture it all.
