The Society for News Design is thrilled to announce that SNDMakes is heading to Atlanta.

Apply to join us the weekend of October 14-16, 2016, as the SNDMakes team partners with Cox Media Group’s Rare. We’ll be tackling the design challenge, “How might we make writing more collaborative and delightful?” with a focus on ways to improve the content creation process.

“Makes” is the Society’s boutique prototyping event — think carefully-designed-dinner-party, not hackathon free-for-all — that uses principles of design-thinking to create solutions for modern news and media companies.

During our 2.5 days together, we’ll not only build prototypes, but we’ll also build relationships with some of the brightest minds in media — designers, engineers, journalists and product managers alike. Whether you’re an experienced developer or a technology n00b, our event format ensures that anyone with a passion for media and a desire to collaborate can make meaningful contributions to a team.

To learn more about what SNDMakes is all about you could read our FAQs, but we think past participants like Dheerja Kaur and the Vox Product team paint a pretty great picture of what you can expect from our time together.

Due to expected popularity — and our promise to curate diverse, cross-functional working teams — we ask potential participants to complete an application. The Society for News Design is committed to creating an environment that champions diversity, inclusion, and reflects our community’s wide range of skills. The application is a tool to help us provide a socially responsible, high-functioning, collaborative environment.

Applications are due Wednesday, September 28, at Noon EST.

45 participants will be accepted into this cohort, and notifications will be sent out on Friday, September 30. Registration will be complete after selected participants purchase an event ticket.
