SUMMARY:October CCC: Taylor Swift’s Electric Touch
DESCRIPTION:53 shows. 20 cities. 5 months. We’ve all heard about the economic impact of The Eras Tour in the U.S. — how the in-demand tour boosted tourism\, contributed to local businesses and even how Swift herself donated to food banks at every stop. We know this because newsrooms in every city covered the tour like it was a Super Bowl. We wanted to turn the angle on this just a bit and chat with local newsrooms about the impact that coverage had on their audience and engagement numbers. Join us for October’s Creative Conference Call where we’ll hear how four newsrooms covered the shows and whether it had any effect on their readership and if any lessons were learned.

SUMMARY:Creative Conference Call: The Art of Sketching
DESCRIPTION:The topic for the November‘s session is the art of sketching and how many designers still use pen and paper to concept and design their work\, whether it is a print layout\, a digital story\, information graphic or product. As designers we sketch to test out ideas\, but we know they may change as we move towards the final product. But sketching out ideas is still an important part of our process for many. \n\nOur Speakers\n\n\n\n\nAdolfo Arranz\, South China Morning Post\nSean McKeown-Young\, Advance\n\n \nRegister for this event\nActive SND members will automatically be registered for this event. SUMMARY:Creative Conference Calls: The Design Museum
DESCRIPTION:Update\n\n\n\nThe Design Museum is now available for viewing and feedback. \n\n\n\nWatch a quick tutorial to learn how to navigate the design museum and use Mural. \n \n\n\n\n\n\nVisit Design Museum\n\n\n \nRegister\nLoading…\n  \nWhen you first see a design or graphic\, what is your first reaction to it? Do you admire all of it or just one aspect? Do you see an idea you want to steal for a future project? Do you wonder why the designer made one decision over another? \nOccasionally you might be able to ask the designer these questions. You can reach out on social media or maybe you know the designer personally already. But most of the time\, we don’t have the opportunity to have deep conversations with the designer\, to understand their process and decisions. \nFor the September Creative Conference Call\, now YOU can be privy to those inner thoughts and designer decisions. \nOur September event will be an interactive session for attendees and speakers that actually begins BEFORE the Creative Conference Call.  \nEnter The Design Museum. \n\n\n\n \nHow It Works\n\n\n\n \nIn September\, we selected four pieces of work from those submitted be designers. Now it is your turn to critique the work displayed.  \n\n\n \nFor the next three weeks prior to the call\, you can enter the Mural board and check out the work. Leave comments anonymously on sticky notes of things you like\, questions you have about a design choice\, color selection\, anything you want. Don’t want to be anonymous? You can sign your name on your sticky note and we’ll bring you into the discussion during the live call. \n\n\n \nPssst. if you are the designer… you can’t reply to the comments or questions left. Yet.  \n\n\n \nOn Sept. 29 the Creative Conference Call will be a speed critique. We will look at each piece of work in the Design Museum individually. For each piece we will facilitate a 5-minute conversation to discuss the comments\, questions and thoughts left on the Mural board. Anyone on the call is welcome to join the conversation. After 5 minutes\, we will speak directly with the designer to hear their thoughts\, what went into the design and how the design came to be.  \n\n\n \nThen we’ll move on to the next piece and repeat.  \n\n\n\n\n\nPssst. if you are the designer… you can’t reply to the comments or questions left. Design systems create consistency\, structure and standards across sections or a family of publications. But they also can stymie creativity and freedom. The team at American City Business Journals will discuss how an organization with no visual identity a decade ago transformed its 40 weekly publications into a place where each designer’s voice can be unique and heard\, while still coloring inside the lines of a design framework. \n\nOur Speakers\n\n\n\n\nJon Wile\, VP/Content & Design\, ACBJ\nMeredith Sheffer\, Senior Designer\, ACBJ\nJacqueline Prins\, Senior Designer\, ACBJ\nShaun Martin\, Senior Designer\, ACBJ\nModerated by Tim Ball\, POLITICO Europe\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\nWatch this Session\n\n\n\nIf you registered for this event\, you can access the video playback. The summer of 2020 brought us some incredible images and stories from Minneapolis. For the visual story tellers at the Star-Tribune it was a year of non-stop breaking-news coverage from the protests to the trial of Derek Chauvin. We will look back on the last 13 months with them and discuss how they visually told these closely followed stories and the impact on their community. \n\nOur Speakers\n\n\n\n\nGreg Mees\, Design Director \, The Star Tribune\nKyndell Harkness\, Assistant Managing Editor of Diversity and Community\, The Star Tribune\nAnna Boone\, Digital Designer\, The Star Tribune\nModerator: Corinne Chin\, Senior Video Journalist and the founder and leader of the newsroom’s Diversity & Inclusion Task Force\, The Seattle Times\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\nWatch this Session\n\n\n\nIf you registered for this event\, you can access the video playback.
